Clean Comfort Steel Roofing Installation Process – Built for Strength, Efficiency & Longevity
At Clean Comfort Home Improvements, we don’t just install steel roofs—we install the best steel roofing systems designed for maximum durability, energy efficiency, and long-term protection.
Our double-strapped (cross-strapped) installation process goes beyond the industry standard to ensure your roof performs flawlessly for decades to come.
Unlike direct-to-deck or single-strapped installations, our double strapping method improves ventilation, prevents moisture buildup, enhances structural stability, and extends the lifespan of your roof. This means your home stays warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and better protected year-round. Interested in speaking to a member of our Team?
The Clean Comfort Difference – Double Strapping for Superior Performance
We double strap (cross strap) every steel roofing system because it is simply the better way to install a long-lasting, high-performance roof.
-
Optimized Airflow – The double-strapped system creates a continuous ventilation channel, reducing the risk of moisture accumulation.
-
Energy Savings – Improved attic ventilation means lower energy bills as hot air is effectively removed during the summer.
-
Enhanced Durability – A stable, level roof installation minimizes movement and stress on the panels, extending the lifespan of your roof.
-
Superior Water Management – In the unlikely event of a fastener issue, our system directs water safely off the roof, protecting your home from leaks.

How Our Double Strapping Installation Works
Step 1: Vertical Strapping (1x4 Battens)
-
Attached to the roof deck with framing nails for a strong, stable foundation.
-
Creates vertical air channels that promote airflow and prevent moisture accumulation.
Step 2: Horizontal Strapping (1x4 Battens)
-
Installed perpendicular to the vertical battens, forming a crisscross support system.
-
Levels the roof surface while reinforcing the overall strength of the system.
Step 3: Steel Roof Installation
-
With a properly ventilated and level foundation, we install the steel roofing panels for maximum durability and longevity.
Why Our Installation Process Matters!
The Problem with No Strapping
Some metal roofs are installed directly onto a membrane on the roof deck. While this may seem fine at first, it creates major problems:
-
Condensation buildup – Warm air from your attic meets the cool metal roof, causing moisture to form. This can lead to leaks, mold, and long-term damage.
-
Reliance on a single membrane – The underlayment is meant to prevent leaks, but if moisture builds up beneath the roof, it has nowhere to go
The Problem with Single Strapping
Some installers use single-layer (horizontal) wood strapping, which creates a small gap between the roof deck and metal panels. While this improves airflow slightly, it doesn’t provide enough ventilation and can lead to:
-
Limited airflow, meaning condensation can still form.
-
Uneven surfaces, as single strapping does not correct dips and swells in the roof deck.
-
Potential water trapping, increasing the likelihood of leaks over time.
-
Non-pressure-treated strapping traps moisture, causing rot over time.
